Free Narrative Fiction Writing Resource

Downloadable PDF resource for primary teachers

This free downloadable resource for primary teachers explores crime-mystery as a combined narrative genre, drawing together elements of crime, mystery and detective texts. It's a great way of introducing students to the crime-mystery genre through a practical, structured, and inspiring approach to narrative writing.

While these are often treated as separate genres, this lesson blends them to describe their shared structure, purpose and text features. It includes exemplars, discussion points and accompanying activities to support classroom learning and spark student engagement.

This freebie is a snippet from the Narrative Fiction Writing series, written to help teachers unpack the details of how to write clearly, while inspiring students to write with confidence. You can explore the full series here.
